I was at the commission meeting the other night, and some of our kids were there. They were there to apologize for vandalizing one of the City’s parks. They each took a turn standing in front of the commissioners to say they were sorry for what they had done, and while I was certainly disappointed that the incident happened, I was also proud of the way it was being handled. The parents were making the children own up to their actions, the commissioners were accepting their apology, while passing on some words of wisdom, and the entire situation was being handled in what I felt was a positive way. The children were being given a chance to grow and learn from their mistakes. This is, I think, the advantage of living in a small town. We can come together, as a community, to help teach our kids when they make a mistake, and hopefully, we can save some of them from falling through the cracks. I commend the parents for making the children take responsibility, and I commend the commissioners for being understanding and forgiving. It was a wonderful moment of Americana, and it made me proud once again to be a Newberrian!

I left this question under the Nations Ball Park section but thinking maybe I should have asked it here. I was just wondering when construction is going to begin on the new Ball Fields?
Also, I really like this website. For so long I have felt in the dark about what is going on in Newberry. I do not have Cox and therefore do not have access to Channel 97 – Newberry’s station.
Good luck Jordan in your bid for City Commissioner. Knowing your family’s long time commitment to the community means that we know you will be a dedicated City Commissioner. As you know we come from farm country and know the support they need. Good luck on April 12. Sheila and Jack
That’s so nice of you! I really am touched and honored by your support, and I would love any help you could give. I’m going to be at the stop light in Newberry doing a little sign holding tomorrow. I’ll be there from 5 to about 6 or 6:30. If you’re available on such short notice, it would be wonderful to meet you there, but I certainly understand if that doesn’t fit your schedule. I’ll be doing a lot of campaigning next week. Maybe, we could meet up some evening. It sounds like you may have more political experience than I do, and I’d love to hear your ideas!
Thank you again for your comments. As a teacher, it’s so nice to hear that, sometimes, you do make a difference.

I am interested in volunteering for your campaign. I firmly believe in democracy and the power of voting. I have been a resident of Newberry for the last two years.
I have had the privilege of meeting your parents, their character, and also, the love expressed to you by your students at NHS, have influenced my decision on voting for you.
I have been involved in the process of voting and worked for the Supervisor of Elections here in Newberry and in Miami.
Sincerely,
Yvette Torres-Harvey
